Passive Satellite Ranging is in fact reverse GPS. It is formed by multiple ground stations, each containing complete RF chains, to range (locate) a satellite.
The main advantage of this a system is in its passivity. It just has to make sure all the ground station are tuned to the same signal from the satellite (e.g. specific TV station signal) and it can range the satellite using correlation algorithms.
The role of the system is to manage the overall satellite ranging system, including configuring stations to acquire a Radio Frequency (RF) signal, computing measurements and streaming the results to Orbit determination systems.
The tracking system is composed of multiple hardware devices. Each of them can be accessed on a different protocol (SNMP, ASCII, ...). Over these protocols, the provided system is able to monitor and control parameters on each device.
The GUI is used by the operators to configure the complete system to range a satellite. The user friendly interface allows simple and quick configuration of measurements. Once a measurement is configured, the user intervention is not required and the system continuously collects data and provides them to the upper layer (i.e. external database).
The system is completely build in Java using Service Oriented Architecture principles.
