Usually, this procedure (sometimes called VSAT provisioning or commissioning) is performed on-site by qualified staff members and involves real-time communication with other staff members at a network operations center.
The Automated VSAT Commissioning System enables the users themselves to prepare their terminals for network access, dispensing with the need for on-site staff presence or an alternate method of communication - the data in both directions is exchanged using proprietary protocols. The process consists of an arbitrary number of steps, which must all be carried out successfully for the terminal to be allowed into the network.
